Our Posture in Prayer
This brief statement explains the spirit in which we pray together.
We Pray Honestly
My style of talking with the Lord is fairly raw. I tell Him what's on my heart—even when it's not pretty. He knows anyway. What good would it do for me to pretend before the God Who is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart?
We Extend Grace in Disagreement
I mention it because there will inevitably be times when you and I will disagree with the direction I take our prayer. In those moments, since we both know Jesus and want to do according to His will, let us agree to these things:
-
We are but flesh. I could be wrong. You could be wrong. We both could be wrong. On some level and in some way, we both could be right. Let's agree to extend each other grace.
-
We cling to Jesus' sacrifice on the cross as payment for our sins. Because of His sacrifice we have been adopted into God's family, even engrafted. That makes us siblings. Siblings disagree sometimes. They still love each other. Let's remember who we are and Whose we are.
-
The old saying goes, "Prayer changes things." I would frame it this way:
It is our Father Who changes things in response to the faith-filled prayers of His children. However, He doesn't always answer prayers in the way that I, or you, may want. He is sovereign, and He is infinitely wise and infinitely good. You may pray in one direction. I may pray in the exact opposite direction. The Omniscient One has already decided what He will do—when invited. Behold, He stands at the door and knocks. He needs us to invite Him into our national (and personal) situations. Let's do it.
And by Prayer Force USA, we will.
